So we are in the process of trying to fully train baby girl. She started showing interest in using to potty around 18 months but initially feared public restrooms and wasn’t as aware of the sensation when it was time to pee. She’s doing good now and even wearing undies at certain times throughout the day. We are very proud of her and try to encourage her with positive reinforcement as often as possible.
This past weekend I was on the main level taking down Christmas decorations and hubby was upstairs adjusting the cable wires. She was upstairs in her room playing. I came upstairs and heard the faint sound of crying. I figured she was in the bedroom with hubby and had got in trouble for not listening. The crying then began to get louder and I heard her screaming mommy. I opened the bedroom and was shocked to find that she was not in the room with hubby. I went in search to find her and found her in the pitch dark bathroom. I turned on the lights and my jaw dropped.
She and the bathroom were covered in poop. Apparently she tried to go potty by herself but couldn’t full get all her clothes off or get on the potty in time. It was even on her hands and feet. She was crying and reaching out for me to console her. I just continued to stare and then called for hubby to come help. Thank God he was home. He jumped right in and took control of the situation. He started by clapping and saying good job baby, in order to let her know that we were proud that she tried. Then he grabbed her and put her in the tub and started washing her off. I finally snapped out of it and began cleaning the floor and took all her clothes down to the washer machine. After he washed her off, he cleaned the tub and gave her real bath. I then cleaned both the main toilet, her potty and the wall. Finally we dried her off and got her dressed. It was definitely a moment to remember.
I’m glad that she’s growing up and trying to be more independent. I’m also thankful for my husband stepping in and properly handling the situation (I honestly didn’t know where to begin). With each day she learns more and so do we. She is becoming her own little person and establishing her independence. I’m excited and scared to see what adventures the future has in store. One thing is for sure, I’ll be sure to keep you all posted. 😀
